Choosing The Right Meditation Teacher Training

online meditation and mindfulness teacher training graduate - Miranda

If you love meditation and feel drawn to share it with others, the right training can help you turn that calling into confident, safe and skillful teaching. You may be new to teaching, or already guiding meditation and wanting greater depth, structure and professional recognition.

The Australian Centre for Meditation and Mindfulness (ACMM) has specialized in meditation teacher training for 20 years, helping people develop the practical skills and personal confidence to teach in their own authentic way.

ACMM’s training is accredited with Meditation Australia and delivered primarily online, with live group meditation and skills practice sessions and one-to-one mentoring, plus opportunities for in-person retreats and work placements.

Students join our meditation and mindfulness training from Melbourne, across Australia and overseas.

You can study from anywhere, at any time, while still receiving personalized support, real teaching experience and live mentoring. Becoming a great meditation teacher takes more than information; it takes practice, connection and community. That is where the life-changing magic of ACMM lies.

Meet ACMM’s founder – Lisa Forde

Lisa Forde ACMM Founder meditating

I founded the Australian Centre for Meditation and Mindfulness in 2006, after meditation had been part of my life for many years. What began with six students has grown into an international community that has supported more than 1,000 meditation teachers.

My background spans psychology, holistic counselling and advanced meditation training, with more than 25 years’ experience as a teacher, mentor, retreat facilitator and speaker. I have also contributed to the profession through Meditation Australia, including serving as President.

My approach has been shaped as much by life as by qualifications. I discovered

meditation during one of my most difficult periods, when it became a source of safety, connection and inner refuge. That experience continues to influence how I teach today.

I believe meditation teachers need more than techniques and scripts. They are served by knowing how to create compassionate spaces, respond sensitively, trust their own presence and help people bring meditation into everyday life. This is why ACMM combines personal practice with practical skills, mentoring, community and real-world experience.

After 25 years, I remain passionate about developing skilful teachers who help people slow down, reconnect and discover their own inner wisdom, and about nurturing an ACMM community that offers genuine belonging, growth and connection.

Why Meditation Teachers Choose ACMM

What You’ll Learn In Your Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher Training

The ACMM meditation teacher training philosophy.

ACMM’s distinctive, heart-centred approach combines meditation teaching with compassionate facilitation, counselling skills, Gestalt principles and Trauma-Sensitive Practice. The flexible, non-denominational framework helps students draw on their lived experience while developing a beginner’s mind, deep listening and the ability to respond to the needs of each participant.

Through experiential learning, personal practice and one-to-one mentoring, students develop much more than technical knowledge. They learn to embody meditation, create safe and inclusive spaces, and guide individuals and groups with confidence, sensitivity and authenticity.

Video and audio teachings, live practice, reflective activities and scriptwriting prepare graduates to guide meditation, create original recordings and programs, and establish their own classes or professional practice.

This is not a surface-level certificate.
This is a professional, life-changing journey grounded in depth, practice and genuine transformation that prepares you to make a real difference.

Eight Core Modules: From Personal Practice to Professional Teaching

Session 1 establishes the philosophical, practical and personal foundations of meditation teaching. Students explore meditation and mindfulness, how they have developed across different traditions, and their relationship with stress, relaxation and holistic wellbeing.

Meditation is approached not just as a technique, but as a way of relating to ourselves and others. Grounding introduces the first essential teaching skill, helping to create safety, presence and stability.

Sensitive, confident teaching begins with sound understanding, personal experience and the ability to hold space for ourselves first.

Session 2 develops the personal practice from which authentic meditation teaching grows. Students explore supportive posture and environments, common obstacles, expectations and motivation, while learning to respond to experience with flexibility and self-compassion.

Centering, mindfulness practices, body awareness and the breath expand both practical skill and deeper personal understanding.

A strong personal practice encourages reflection, consistency and curiosity over time. Teachers need to understand meditation from within, and to guide others through its challenges with confidence, sensitivity and lived insight.

Session 3 brings scientific understanding into balance with meditation’s personal, intuitive and embodied qualities. Students explore the brain, research methods and the evidence surrounding meditation, building confidence to discuss its benefits responsibly without reducing the practice to facts and claims.

Nature, sound, inquiry, mindful breathing, body awareness and compassion practices broaden their experience of different techniques.

Students begin to understand both what research can show and what can only be discovered through practice. This helps them communicate clearly, teach from lived experience and choose approaches with sensitivity to different people’s needs.

Session 4 marks the transition from experiencing meditation to guiding it with structure, sensitivity and creativity. Students learn the ACMM framework, developed over 20 years of meditation teacher training, along with supportive language and the principles of moving, somatic and relaxation meditation.

Beginner’s mind and emotional honesty encourage spontaneity and the development of an authentic teaching voice, while body-based practices build greater sensitivity to emotions and individual needs.

Effective guidance requires more than following a script. Students learn to create safety, maintain flow and respond intuitively while holding a clear structure that supports each participant’s body, feelings and unfolding experience.

In Session 5, students expand their ability to use guided imagery, sound, silence, movement, mindfulness, breath and inquiry practices within the adaptable ACMM framework.

They learn to adjust timing and structure for different techniques, support beginners, and help participants explore images and insights without imposing interpretation.

Facilitation skills develop the ability to support meaningful discussion with empathy rather than advice or analysis. Skilled group guidance extends beyond delivering meditation. It requires teachers to respond to different experiences and create a supportive space in which insight can emerge naturally.

Session 6 develops the relational and intuitive skills that transform meditation guidance into genuine facilitation. Students learn to create safer spaces, build compassionate and ethical relationships, and guide spontaneously without relying on a script.

Live practice provides supported experience in creativity, reflective listening, self-review and responding in the moment, while refining pace, pauses, tone and language.

Confidence cannot be developed through theory alone. Teachers practise trusting themselves, receiving feedback and using structure as an internal guide, allowing each meditation to feel authentic, responsive, connected and alive.

Session 7 prepares students to hold groups with self-awareness, compassion and professional judgement. Students explore how personal history can shape facilitation and group work, while developing practical skills for group dynamics, discussion and common challenges.

Trauma-aware and anxiety-sensitive guidance, diversity, inclusion and spiritual care deepen their ability to welcome different needs and experiences. Clear scope of practice, referral pathways and continued deep listening strengthen ethical decision-making.

A meditation teacher does more than simply cultivate calm. They recognise vulnerability, maintain appropriate boundaries and help create a space where people feel respected, empowered and supported. These spaces are needed more than ever in the community.

This highly practical module brings every element of the training together as students step into professional practice.

They learn to design responsive programs, teach individual techniques, assess needs, support specific goals and create realistic action plans, while applying sound ethics, privacy, intake and professional-care processes.

Students then guide original meditations for real groups, facilitate reflective discussion and refine their work through mentor feedback. Competence is demonstrated through practice, as students bring together knowledge, presence, creativity, safety and facilitation into a confident and authentic teaching approach they can sustain beyond graduation.

“The learnings and deep personal insights I have experienced while completing my studies with the ACMM, alongside being supported by open hearted skilled mentors has been something I have never experienced before in other courses. You are not only learning the skills to guide and teach meditation but also turning inward and reconnecting to the truth of who you are. Truly grateful for this safe and supportive community.” Nicki – New Zealand

Tracy offers ACMM a review

“I discovered my naturalness with the electives I chose, and every one of my coaches honored where I was at with respect, kindness, gratitude and loving support. Even if I was to never go on to teach others, the brilliance and inner peace found through meditation, I know that I have found this within myself”
