The Mental Health Prevention Space for Meditation Teachers with Sally Cumming

Want to learn more about bringing mindfulness to the mental health and wellbeing prevention space in corporate mindfulness teaching? We are thrilled to share some tips from Sally Cumming about teaching mindfulness in the real world.

Sally Cumming from Engage Health speaks to the ACMM Business Lounge members

Sally is one of Australia’s leading corporate mental health wellness and mindfulness trainers in the Mental Health Prevention Space and has worked for Police Services, Ambulance, other government departments and extensively in the private sector.

In our recent ACMM Business Lounge session for graduates of our Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher Training Certificates and Diplomas, Sally shared her experiences with starting a business. She generously shared tips and ideas for moving into the corporate sector and explains why mindfulness is a growing modality for mental health prevention in the corporate world, and how to get involved.

A few tips that Sally shared:

  • The importance of not putting too much financial pressure on your new business. It might be worth having another source of income in those first few years of getting a new endeavour up and running, so that you can approach work opportunities calmly and clearly. Watch the video for her “butterfly on your shoulder” story.
  • Get to know your clients and their needs. Spending time with your clients before you write the program that you will deliver, really listening and discerning what the best approach will be will mean that you will be able to tailor the training to their requirements, and often learn surprising things about yourself and them in the process (perhaps things you may never have considered).
  • Mindfulness as a prevention strategy in the workplace is growing in popularity and need. Mental Health is becoming a greater focus for many workplaces and more and more opportunities are opening up in this space.
  • With the work scape changing dramatically due to Covid; be prepared to work online. You can make this work for you, since working online is far more time efficient. There will be certain ways that you will need to adapt your teaching style when working online, which Sally goes into in the full video.
